It becomes the rediscovery of the year: in 2021, the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin acquires the Bogenschütze (1928) by Sascha Wiederhold - a painting of »wildly swirling forms and patterns as well as intense colors, and his large-format paintings convey an almost psychedelic visual experience.« Cubist elements line up with expressionist components. The today unknown artist and bookseller Sascha Wiederhold (1904-1962) painted from 1924 and belonged to the circle around Herwarth Walden's Berlin gallery and eponymous magazine Der Sturm. With the coming of National Socialism, he laid down his creative work and later worked as a bookseller.

Only a few of Wiederhold's works have been preserved today. The Neue Nationalgalerie has appreciated Wiederhold's lost talent since last summer's exhibition The Art of Society 1900-1945, and as a result decides to honor Wiederhold's overlooked potential with its first solo museum exhibition-nearly half a century has passed since his last solo gallery presentation. As of today, the Neue Nationalgalerie is showing 50 paintings and drawings in the Kabinett under the title Sascha Wiederhold - Rediscovering a Forgotten Artist. Until January 8, 2023, interested visitors can view Wiederhold's colorful works in this special exhibition.Art.Salon
