Kunstmuseum Luzern: Annual exhibitions »zentral!« and »Solo. Mahtola Wittmer«

Regional art from Central Switzerland: Lucerne presents selected newcomers and last year's winner of the Solo Prize

The Kunstmuseum Luzern combines the annual group exhibition zentral! with the associated solo exhibition Solo by last year's winner of the Ausstellungspreis Kunstgesellschaft Luzern (exhibition prize) of the same name. From 14 December onwards, cross-disciplinary works by up-and-coming talents from Central Switzerland as well as objects and performance interventions by Lucerne artist Mahtola Wittmer can be seen here.

Under the title zentral!, the Kunstmuseum Luzern regularly organises an annual exhibition in which it presents a cross-section of the current art landscape in Central Switzerland. This year's edition of the show opens on 14 December. Traditionally, works by ambitious regional artists are shown there, whose submitted dossiers have been selected beforehand by a jury of experts. The result is an exciting, varied and, above all, cross-disciplinary collective exhibition that is linked to the awarding of the Prize of the Cantons of Central Switzerland and the exhibition prize of the Lucerne Art Society (title: Solo). The platform zentral! sees itself as a regionally oriented art promotion project that can serve as a »springboard into supraregional waters« for the selected young talents.

The collective exhibition zentral! is usually followed by a solo exhibition of the previous year's Solo Prize winner at the Museum of Art Lucerne. For this reason, this year's solo exhibition, starting on 14 December, will be entitled Solo. Mahtola Wittmer by Mahtola Wittmer (*1993). The Lucerne-based artist created performative interventions and objects especially for the events, in which she demonstrates interpersonal relationships and the tensions that accompany them. The central point of departure is the table, which as social furniture symbolises human interaction: It is the place where people argue, discuss, get to know and love each other, where friendships and family ties are forged or even where politics are played out. It also forms the foundation for new works. In the performance series Ich+, Wittmer once again deals with the tension between relationships, but this time in relation to her personal environment. The actions each last between one minute and several hours and take place at different locations. The annual exhibitions zentral! and solo end on 13 February 2022.Art.Salon
