March 16, 2022

The Weltkunstzimmer in Düsseldorf opens with Richard Bellias. Rocking Photography on 17 March, the first Richard Bellias exhibition in Germany. It exclusively shows well-known faces - from the music scene, of course, because music is Richard Bellias' (*1962) affair of the heart. Among the greats he has photographed are The Cure, Depeche Mode, Nirvana and David Bowie. The success of the French music photographer and journalist goes back to his time in London in the 1980s: first his photographs appeared in music magazines before he also turned to journalism. In 2016, he finally released his photo book Un œil sur la musique 1980 - 2016, which summarises 36 years of music history with more than 1000 photos.

The invention of digital photography did not change Bellia's penchant for analogue technology. To this day, he remains loyal to the manufacturer Hasselblad and the traditional process. With the analogue camera, he gets very close to the edge of the stage and brings the viewer right into the middle of the action: »At a concert or festival, not being idle, keeping your hands busy... with the camera in your hand, you pay much more attention to what's happening. You're a metre away, elbows on the stage, you're taking advantage of it,« Richard Bellia tells us.

In the exhibition, the Weltkunstzimmer lets visitors trace Bellia's intention to look at music through the photographic eye. Richard Bellia's. Rocking Photography runs until 10 April.Art.Salon
