Fondation CAB in Brussels: »André Cadere: Expanding Art«
Round bars and undiscovered material
Two very different creative periods limited to 18 years: to do justice to André Cadere's work in all its facets is rather complex. The Fondation CAB in Brussels has taken on precisely this undertaking. From March 7, the public will have the chance to explore the result.
André Cadere (1934-1978) was only 48 years old - the selection of his works is limited to 18 years, which are, however, strictly divided into two very different creative periods: The first lasted from 1960 to 1967 in Bucharest, while the second ended in 1978 in Paris with the artist's death. The Fondation CAB in Brussels tries to approach Cadere globally from March 7, leaving no gaps. In André Cadere: Expanding Art, it brings together for the first time his famous round wooden bars with the square ones. Originally, he once linked the spear-sized sticks, reminiscent of stiff pearl necklaces, to his physical presence - later he showed them detached from his performance.
The Fondation CAB ends the story with text works, photo series of Cadere's countless journeys, film documents, and devices from public space. Visitors will also have the opportunity to discover works from 1969 to 1971 that have remained hidden from the public. Until the end of the exhibition on July 15, the Fondation CAB will organize an accompanying program consisting of a residency project as well as meetings and performances closely linked to Cadere's work. There will also be exchanges with new artists acting in the spirit of those whom Cadere loved to inspire with his work.
Art for the harmonious coexistence of the global population: At the Haus der Kunst in Munich, Argentine artist Tomás Saraceno presents visions for new forms of living together. The exhibition Tomás Saraceno. Ancestral Futures opens on July 17.
A unique body of work: Tate Modern is presenting the Cuban artist Ana Mendieta with over 150 works, including films, installations, and rarely seen paintings. The exhibition of the same name opens on July 15 in London.
