Ulrike Ottinger made a name for herself as an important Pop Art painter early in her career. In 2021, at the age of 79, she received the Hans-Thoma-Prize for her life's work, in the context of which an exhibition of her work is now being dedicated to her: The Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden will be filling its rooms with the wide-ranging œuvre of the artist, who was born in 1942. Cosmos Ottinger can be seen from 19 February to 15 May.

The title of the exhibition is well-considered: Ottinger's work is extremely extensive and includes paintings, photographs, sculptures and installations as well as videos and films. A selection of the latter will be broadcast by the Moviac cinema in Baden-Baden to coincide with the exhibition, while in the Kunsthalle scripts, film props, object and costume installations as well as fabric collages and photographs refer to her avant-garde film works. The solo show provides insight into Ottinger's interests, perspectives and working methods. The focus is on the themes of feminism and queerness, which not only play a personal role for the artist, but are also discussed with a view to current politics. The result is a colourful synopsis of a wide variety of media that come together to form an artistic expression.Art.Salon
