The 10th Berlin Art Week offers some special features for its anniversary

A multi-day art event that encompasses the entire city: Berlin Art Week will be held from 15 to 19 September 2021 in an even larger format than before.

The usual extensive programme consisting of performances, screenings, exhibitions and art education, among other things, which has attracted over 100,000 visitors annually in the past, is to take place even more decentrally and surpass itself in scope. More than 50 partners such as museums, fairs and private collections promise variety, internationality and a highly exciting as well as topical examination of the content of contemporary art.

Since its founding as an experiment with eleven partners at the time, Berlin Art Week has become an important event for artists and galleries worldwide within just a few years. The organisers always have both experts and interested parties in mind when it comes to art and cultural mediation.

This year, for example, the exhibition ABA 10+1, which opens on 16 September, will revive salon culture at several venues in Berlin and Brandenburg. Visitors will be able to exchange ideas with artists and personalities from Berlin's cultural landscape. The Artist of the Year award also bears the growing scope: for the first time, three artists will receive it. Maxwell Alexandre from Brazil, Conny Maier from Germany and Zhang Xu Zhan from Taiwan all reflect themes such as community, myths and environmental destruction in their works.

Certainly, this year's event is still under the influence of the pandemic and will not attract as much of an international audience as we have been used to in previous years. But the exciting programme should sufficiently compensate all visitors who dare to visit despite the restrictions and give a foretaste of how Art Week will develop in the coming years.Art.Salon

Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller is often associated with the Biedermeier period, yet his paintings—especially his landscapes, which he created outdoors from life—tell a different story. For the first time, an exhibition of the painter’s work is coming to the United Kingdom: Waldmüller: Landscapes opens on July 2 at the National Gallery in London.
