The international fair miart opens for the 25th time

From September 17 to 19, 2021, miart returns in full force with 142 participating galleries after a two-year retreat into the digital space, even if it has not yet fully regained its former scale.

September 16, 2021

The 25th edition of miart will take place both physically and virtually and will stick to the familiar sections in its basic structure. Established Masters and the main section Established Contemporary are once again in focus this year. The former presents only artworks created before 1999. Exceptions from the first years of the 21st century will only be admitted if they are by renowned artists whose longest creative period is before the turn of the millennium. For the second time since 2020, this section includes works of applied arts alongside fine art. The Established Contemporary section is dedicated to contemporary works, with applied arts once again admitted. With this step, the organizers of the fair hope to attract even more collectors with different interests and backgrounds in the future.

Completing the major sections are Generations, in which two artists from different generations present works on the same theme, Decades and Emergent, a presentation of 20th-century Italian art organized by decades, and a show of works by the youngest generation of artists. All sections will be on view through traditional means as well as digitally.

Already from April ran the new campaign And Flowers / Words, in which personalities of the Italian art and culture scene are interviewed by Nicola Ricciardi, artistic director of the fair. In addition to art, the written and spoken word are the main themes. The project was inspired by the poem Pastoral by Charles Simić, which appeared 50 years ago in the volume Dismantling the Silence and serves as the guiding principle of miart 2021: to find new ways of communication after two years of silence.Art.Salon
