The North and South Poles are the largest freshwater reservoirs on earth and have existed for millions of years. Humans have already significantly affected them within a few decades. The third largest freshwater reservoir is less known as such in the media: the Himalayan Mountains, nicknamed The Third Pole. Since 2017, the artist Himali Singh Soin has been dealing with the mountains from a non-human perspective in the ongoing series of works we are opposite like that − especially with the formation and history of the ice masses whose loss is imminent. The Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid is now presenting Singh Soin's works: The Third Pole runs from 25 October to 29 January.

Himali Singh Soin was born in 1987 in northern India and grew up in England. Both cultures, forced to be closely connected by colonisation, influence her person and her work. She owes her interest in geology and nature to her father, who explored the Arctic as an discoverer. The current exhibition also looks at Singh Soin's series of works As grand as what (2018-2021), which provides ritual suggestions for earth spirits to reactivate the earth after its destruction by humans.Art.Salon
