Naming or defining time is a difficulty that has preoccupied people worldwide for centuries. The question establishes a connection to our ancestors. In an art exhibition at Biesdorf Palace in Berlin, twelve selected artists present works that allow for an individual perception of time. The title of the show, Time is an Ocean, refers to an idea of the Mexican Zapotec people that time is like the ocean, moved internally by waves and currents, yet resting as a unity. The exhibition runs until February 27 and was curated by Regina Weiss and Benno Hinkes, who are also showing their own works alongside Thomas Eller, Iman Hasbani, Martin Honert, Abdulkarim Majdal Albeik, Wenfeng Liao, Gerenot Richter, Peter Strickmann, Kleopatra Tsali, Evgenija Wassilew, and Bignia Wehrli.
Berlin-based artist Regina Weiss, who participates in the Art.Salon artist program, studied sculpture in Dresden and Stockholm. However, her artistic work is not limited to one or more media: she explores a theme in depth and then finds suitable visualization strategies such as drawings, installations, photography, and video works. In the current exhibition, she presents a new series of drawings: Close your Eyes and See is based on the phenomenon of the reddish-orange color world that one is immersed in when looking at the sun with closed eyes. »For me, this ‘seeing with closed eyes’ represents a moment of blissful self-forgetfulness and immediate connection with one's own body and nature. A kind of limbo in which an experience that lasts only a few seconds seems to transform into a moment of absolute timelessness«, the artist explains in a statement.
