The attitude to life of our time

»Ugo Rondinone. Nude in the Landscape« at Belvedere 21 in Vienna

The internationally renowned Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone often processes everyday themes, which he depicts atmospherically. In »Nude in the Landscape«, new installations by the multimedia artist are expected to be on view until from December 12, 2021, due to the lockdown.

Born in 1964, Rondinone has dedicated his artistic practice to crossing the boundaries of media and disciplines for over 30 years now. Rondinone combines and updates landscapes, nudes and still lifes − classic genres of painting − in minimalist installations. In doing so, he explores the range of human experience in everyday life, especially in and with nature.

In »Nude in the Landscape«, it is figures sculpted from earth and clear wax arranged next to a landscape that no longer looks natural, also made of earth. Man as an introverted, isolated, depressed being who has lost contact with his formerly natural living environment − and probably can no longer return to it, since it hardly exists anymore. Rondinone, who has lived in New York for more than 20 years, captures here the feeling of life in the present.

With this show, Belvedere 21 presents Rondinone's first solo museum exhibition in Austria. The installations can be viewed there until May 01, 2022.Art.Salon
