Moroccan artist Meriem Bennani's video installation Party on the CAPS (2018-19) has been a standout work in recent years: the eight-channel work follows the events of a fictional island in the Atlantic Ocean where immigrants attempting to teleport illegally to the United States are intercepted and detained. A megacity quickly grows up on the isolated island, which develops its own culture and traditions. Nottingham Contemporary is showing this work and its sequel in Meriem Bennani, Life on the CAPS from May 7 to September 4. They are on view for the first time in the UK.

Meriem Bennani (b. 1988) studied in Paris and now lives in New York. In 2020, she made her video series 2 Lizards, which explores life in New York City during the Corona pandemic and brought Bennani worldwide attention. The eight videos of 2 Lizards are in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art.Art.Salon
