Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work La Masseuse by Edgar Degas was auctioned at Christies in New York in May this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 70,000.00 – 100,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 69,300.00 (€ 65,045.99). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Edgar Degas achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Petite danseuse de quatorze ans in May last year with an auction result of USD 41,610,000.00 (€ 38,775,510.20).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit La Masseuse von Edgar Degas im Mai diesen Jahres bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 70.000,00 – 100.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 69.300,00 (€ 65.045,99) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Edgar Degas erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Petite danseuse de quatorze ans im Mai letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 41.610.000,00 (€ 38.775.510,20).
