The work Mister by Franz Kline was sold in the American Visionary: The Collection of Mrs. John L. Marion auction at Sothebys in New York in May 2021. The price achieved of USD 17,269,200.00 (€ 14,162,046.91) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 15,000,000.00 – 20,000,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Franz Kline - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work without title, which sold at auction in November 2012 for USD 40,402,500.00 (€ 31,054,957.72).
