Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work No. 3 by Franz Kline was auctioned at Bonhams in New York in November 2020, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 30,000.00 – 50,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 19,063.00 (€ 15,954.97). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Franz Kline achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work without title in November 2012 with an auction result of USD 40,402,500.00 (€ 31,054,957.72).
