This artwork by Hiroshi Sugimoto achieved an unexpectedly high price at Phillips in New York in May last year. In the 20th Century & Contemporary Art Day Sale, Afternoon Session auction, the work JOE 2083 sold for USD 107,100.00 (€ 99,804.31) - well above the upper estimate of USD 60,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Hiroshi Sugimoto achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Black Sea, Ozuluce; Yellow Sea, Cheju; Red Sea, Safaga in May 2007 with an auction result of USD 1,888,000.00 (€ 1,403,404.45).
