Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work Pinocchio and Jiminy Cricket by Kaws was auctioned at Sothebys in Hong Kong in January 2021, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - HKD 50,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at HKD 151,200.00 (€ 16,073.18). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Kaws achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Untitled (Kimpsons #1) in October 2019 with an auction result of HKD 57,877,000.00 (€ 6,615,255.49).
Kunstwerk zum Dreifachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert
Als die Arbeit Pinocchio and Jiminy Cricket von Kaws im Januar 2021 bei Sothebys in Hong Kong versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – HKD 50.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit HKD 151.200,00 (€ 16.073,18) mehr als dreimal so hoch. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Kaws erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Untitled (Kimpsons #1) im Oktober 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von HKD 57.877.000,00 (€ 6.615.255,49).
