A top price for Larry Rivers
When the work Africa I by Larry Rivers was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in May 2021, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 450,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than four times as high at USD 2,077,000.00 (€ 1,703,296.70). This high result makes Africa I the most expensive artwork by Larry Rivers that we have observed at auctions so far.
