Despite a disappointment, a good price for René Groebli
When the work The Magic Of The Railway, C. 1949 by René Groebli was auctioned at Sothebys in London in November 2008, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 10,000.00 – 14,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 8,500.00 (€ 10,277.14). Despite this disappointing result, The Magic Of The Railway, C. 1949 is the most expensive artwork by René Groebli that we have observed at auction so far.
