Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work La fidélité des images #2: La mort des fantômes, 1928 by René Magritte was auctioned at Christies in New York in May last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 2,772.00 (€ 2,583.17). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by René Magritte achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work L’empire des lumières in March last year with an auction result of GBP 59,422,000.00 (€ 70,451,468.85).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit La fidélité des images #2: La mort des fantômes, 1928 von René Magritte im Mai letzten Jahres bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 3.000,00 – 5.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 2.772,00 (€ 2.583,17) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von René Magritte erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit L’empire des lumières im März letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 59.422.000,00 (€ 70.451.468,85).
