Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Chocolate Merangue by Wayne Thiebaud was sold in the 20th Century & Contemporary Art Evening Sale auction at Phillips in New York in May this year. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 2,000,000.00 – 3,000,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 2,238,000.00 (€ 2,100,619.49) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Wayne Thiebaud have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Encased Cakes in July last year with an auction result of HKD 79,200,000.00 (€ 9,882,532.84).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Chocolate Merangue von Wayne Thiebaud wurde im Mai diesen Jahres in der Auktion 20th Century & Contemporary Art Evening Sale bei Phillips in New York versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 2.000.000,00 – 3.000.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 2.238.000,00 (€ 2.100.619,49) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Wayne Thiebaud auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Encased Cakes im Juli letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von HKD 79.200.000,00 (€ 9.882.532,84).
