Art Basel in Basel

Art Basel 2021 opens its doors on September 24. For three days, visitors will be able to view art from 272 leading galleries from around the world at Messe Basel - these will present an exciting selection ranging from rare, historic masterpieces to contemporary works by young artists. As part of the special exhibition Unlimited, curated for the first time by Giovanni Carmine, 62 large-scale works by both renowned and emerging artists will also be shown on the exhibition grounds - with Unlimited, Art Basel offers participating galleries the opportunity to show, for example, room-sized installations, sculptures, and oversized paintings or video projections that extend beyond the traditional exhibition stand.

Another highlight at Art Basel is the 12th edition of the so-called Parcours - 20 site-specific artworks that will be distributed throughout Basel's city center. The curator of the Parcours this year was once again Samuel Leuenberger, founder of the non-profit exhibition space SALTS in Birsfelden, Switzerland. Marc Spiegler, Art Basel's Global Director, highlights in particular the work on the two special exhibition projects at this year's art fair: »The scope and ambition of this year's Unlimited and Parcours are a testament to the commitment of the participating galleries,« he says.
