Tom Sachs: an interactive trip through outer space

Deichtorhallen Hamburg: Tom Sachs – Space Program: Rare Earths

Between 19 September 2021 and 10 April 2022, visitors to the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg can explore the interactive space landscape by artist Tom Sachs.

September 17, 2021

On 19 September, the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg will open a solo exhibition of comprehensive works by the US artist Tom Sachs. In Space Program: Rare Earths, works on the theme of outer space will be on display in the Hall of Contemporary Art over an area of around 3,000 square metres until 10 April 2022. The special feature of the exhibition will be the interactive elements that will accompany the visitors through the impressive cosmic installations - including, for example, an »idoctrination process« that will turn the visit to the exhibition into a tangible space mission.

The contemporary US artist Tom Sachs (*1966) is known for being a tinkerer, which is why he has made a name for himself primarily with his bricolages - at the same time, he is known for his immersive and spectacular installations, with which he will now fill the Hall for Contemporary Art in the Deichtorhallen. Designed especially for the hall, a walk-in space landscape will be created here for a period of a good six months – the exhibition is the fourth part of sach's thirteen-year interstellar series of works Space Program, which will focus on the closest asteroid to earth, Vesta.Art.Salon
