Kunstmuseum Solothurn presents exhibition of contemporary art

Depth of Field: Not everything is always as clear as it seems

What we can see is not always what is depicted. With the exhibition Tiefenschärfe. Zwischen Lust, List und Schrecken (Depth of Field. Between Pleasure, Cunning and Horror), the Kunstmuseuem Solothurn proves that even razor-sharp elements can conceal a trick of the eye. Under this motto, the Kunsthaus is showing works of contemporary art from 29 January until 24 April.

Tiefenschärfe. Zwischen Lust, List und Schrecken (Depth of Field. Between Pleasure, Cunning and Horror), the new exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Solothurn, is based on the opening show Die Schärfe der Unschärfe (The Sharpness of Blurriness) from 1998, curated by the then new curator Christoph Vögele. His 24-year tenure is now coming to an end. The circle is therefore being closed from 29 January with a show of contemporary art that approaches the earlier theme from a different perspective. In Tiefenschärfe, the aim is to bring razor-sharp motifs into focus. Contrary to the expectations evoked by the exhibition title, however, this does not necessarily clarify the view.  The works make use of trompe-l'oeil, an art of the eye. With Tiefenschärfe (Depth of Field), the Kunstmuseum Solothurn presents works that work »with all the means of seduction« and flirt with deception.

Although the exhibition focuses on contemporary art, the cross-generational and cross-media selection of exhibits ensures exciting variety. Franz Gertsch (*1930), Simone Kappeler (*1952), Bernard Voïta (*1960) and the artist duo Taiyo Onorato (*1979) and Nico Krebs (*1979) are among the artists on show. A space-related mural by Friederike Feldmann (*1962) was realised especially for the exhibition - it can therefore only be viewed as part of the event, which will take place until 24 April 2022 in the Swiss city of Solothurn.Art.Salon
