Berlin: public guided tours at the Museum of Asian Art

Discussing provenance, restitution and colonial continuities while visiting the museum

The new presentation of the Museum of Asian Art in Berlin's Humboldt Forum also aims to take a critical look at the collection's holdings. Since 23 January, interested visitors have been given the opportunity to discuss provenance, restitution and colonial continuities on almost daily public tours.

The Humboldt Forum in Berlin, which only opened last September, has been organizing public tours of the Museum of Asian Art since 23 January, presenting its art collection with artworks from South, Southeast, East and Central Asia for the first time. The ethnological museum has long been the focus of attention because of the controversial origin of the cultural objects. For this reason, questions of provenance, restitution and colonial continuities will also be discussed during the guided tour.

The event costs eight euros per person and must be booked in advance online or at the box office in the foyer. The guided tour lasts about one hour and will be held in English. The organizers also ask that you arrive at the meeting point (at the Humboldt Forum, on Schloßplatz in Berlin) 15 minutes before the start. Please note that due to the pandemic situation, the size of the group is limited to a maximum of 10 people, depending on the format of the tour, and that the known hygiene rules must be observed.Art.Salon
