In the Sunley Room of the National Gallery of London, beginning March 2, visitors will view an endlessly programmed panorama of animations by artist Nalini Malani – My Reality is Different is an exhibition of the first National Contemporary fellow. The National Gallery in London names its first contemporary fellow: artist Nalini Malani gets to defend that post starting March 2 with the exhibition Nalini Malani: My Reality is Different - National Gallery Contemporary Fellowship with Art Fund. In the Sunley Room, the exhibition house will show Malani's hand-drawn iPad animations. The National Gallery arranges them into a panorama of nine large video projections that loop endlessly. The animations of varying lengths overlap, evoking infinite combinations and interactions of images that allow viewers to interpret meanings all of their own.

Nalini Malani's intention was to allow new perspectives on well-known artworks from the in-house collection – Caravaggio, Bronzino, Jan van der Venne and Johann Zoffany are some of the Old Masters whose compositions she updates to a contemporary level. Fake portraits of marginalized people keep slipping in between the animations – reminding us of the economic scope of the work these people do. The Fellowship exhibition will be on view from March 2 to June 11.Art.Salon
