Small format, big effect: »Color on Paper« at Klaus Braun Gallery

Artists who bring life to color through artistic manipulation exhibit in »Color on Paper« and at times are present in person. The focus of the exhibition is on small formats that demand an examination also from a short distance and thus invite into conceptual visual worlds. The four exhibiting artists have already shown their works in major institutions.

The Swede Maria Wallenstal-Schoenberg works with dense color tones in her watercolors. Effects of complementary colors, influenced by atmospheres and human emotions, are explored here. The South Korean Wonkun Jun lets himself be literally guided by his own emotions in his numerous superimposed layers of color. The idea of balance between colors is decisive for him. Susanne Stähli deals in ink drawings with the flowing properties of color, which always seem transparent. The coincidence of the color gradient is also part of her works. In contrast, Ines Hock takes a more analytical approach; the interactions of color and light determine her work. Her concern is to really understand color itself.
