The universe is being recreated in the monumental halls of the Kunstkraftwerk Leipzig: the immersive exhibition Origins – Life’s Epic Journey presents artistic interpretations that recreate the beginnings of the universe and the development of the first life forms. In eight large exhibition rooms, visitors can expect a new kind of art experience with sound installations, analog photography, detailed 3D models, AI-based art, virtual reality and 360° shows. Artistic creativity, combined with the latest technical possibilities, creates a unique atmosphere designed to inspire reflection on the beauty and fragility of nature. Under the artistic direction of multidisciplinary artist Markos Kay, Martin Salfity, Teun van der Zalm, Jesse Solomon Clark, Zeitguised, Kling Klang Klong, Susie Sie and Nervous System, among others, will be presenting their work. Origins – Life’s Epic Journey opens on January 31 and runs until June 29.

Whether the almost incomprehensible vastness of a black hole, untamed volcanic landscapes or the fascinating beauty of the first life forms: the multi-sensory exhibition also encourages visitors to reflect on their own existence on our planet and goes beyond the accusation of mere amazement at technical effects and entertainment that many immersive shows are accused of. At the beginning of the exhibition, visitors are initially greeted by the scientific background – linking the excitement triggered by the artworks to a fundamental understanding of the topic.

Since its opening in 2016, Kunstkraftwerk Leipzig has been regarded as Germany's first digital art center and is a pioneering trailblazer for immersive art. The former heating plant has developed into a vibrant center for digital and contemporary art, where spectacular 360° projections, innovative art exhibitions, live music and multimedia shows blur the boundaries between artwork and viewer. Here, digital innovation is used as the key to preserving and communicating cultural heritage in a modern way and making it possible to experience it in a unique way.Art.Salon
