Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Georges Mathieu could be acquired at Phillips in Hong Kong in June last year for an unexpectedly low price. In the 20th Century & Contemporary Art & Design Day Sale auction, the work Souvenir de depart (Parting Memories) changed hands for HKD 882,000.00 (€ 107,332.89) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of HKD 900,000.00 – 1,500,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Georges Mathieu achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Tuz Gölü in October 2021 with an auction result of HKD 18,325,000.00 (€ 2,038,402.44).
