In June 2000 Christies in Amsterdam held the auction TWENTIETH CENTURY ART, which included the work Sphere with fish by Maurits Cornelis Escher. The »bidding war« ended at NLG 1,872.32 (€ 798.95), 56% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Maurits Cornelis Escher achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Reptiles (Bool 327) in April last year with an auction result of USD 756,000.00 (€ 717,471.77).

Im Juni 2000 führte Christies in Amsterdam die Auktion TWENTIETH CENTURY ART durch, in der auch die Arbeit Sphere with fish von Maurits Cornelis Escher zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von NLG 1.872,32 (€ 798,95) und damit 56% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Maurits Cornelis Escher erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Reptiles (Bool 327) im April letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 756.000,00 (€ 717.471,77).
