Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Agbogbloshie Market, Accra, Ghana by Pieter Hugo was auctioned at Bonhams in New York in October 2020, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 7,000.00 – 9,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 6,950.00 (€ 5,967.20). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Pieter Hugo achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Mummy Ahmadu and Mallam Mantari Lamal with Mainasara, Abuja, Nigeria, 2005 in May 2018 with an auction result of GBP 56,250.00 (€ 64,053.66).
