In May last year Phillips in New York held the auction 20th Century & Contemporary Art Evening Sale, which included the work Untitled (Nets) by Yayoi Kusama. The »bidding war« ended at USD 10,496,000.00 (€ 9,781,008.29), 50% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Yayoi Kusama - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Pumpkin, which sold at auction in April this year for HKD 30,000,000.00 (€ 30,635,869.57).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 50 % übertroffen
Im Mai letzten Jahres führte Phillips in New York die Auktion 20th Century & Contemporary Art Evening Sale durch, in der auch die Arbeit Untitled (Nets) von Yayoi Kusama zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 10.496.000,00 (€ 9.781.008,29) und damit 50% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Yayoi Kusama mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Pumpkin beobachtet, die im April diesen Jahres für HKD 30.000.000,00 (€ 30.635.869,57) versteigert wurde.
