Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work 1947-R-No. 1 by Clyfford Still was auctioned at Christies in New York in November 2006, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 7,000,000 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at USD 21,296,000 (€ 16,059,121). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Clyfford Still - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work 1949-A-No . 1, which sold at auction in November 2011 for USD 61,682,500 (€ 45,850,368).
Kunstwerk zum Dreifachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert
Als die Arbeit 1947-R-No. 1 von Clyfford Still im November 2006 bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – USD 7.000.000 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit USD 21.296.000 (€ 16.059.121) mehr als dreimal so hoch. Für andere Arbeiten von Clyfford Still mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit 1949-A-No . 1 beobachtet, die im November 2011 für USD 61.682.500 (€ 45.850.368) versteigert wurde.
