Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Puzzling Times by David Hammons was auctioned at Phillips in New York in November 2021, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 1,000,000.00 – 1,500,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 877,000.00 (€ 777,000.09). Admittedly, works by David Hammons have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work without title in November 2013 with an auction result of USD 8,005,000.00 (€ 5,883,433.78).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Puzzling Times von David Hammons im November 2021 bei Phillips in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 1.000.000,00 – 1.500.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 877.000,00 (€ 777.000,09) den Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von David Hammons auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit ohne Titel im November 2013 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 8.005.000,00 (€ 5.883.433,78).
