Despite a disappointment, a good price for Erastus Salisbury Field
When the work A Pair of Portraits: Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Pearce as Bride and Groom by Erastus Salisbury Field was auctioned at Christies in New York in January 2001, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 15,000.00 – 25,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 11,750.00 (€ 12,623.55).
