This artwork by Max Ernst achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in May 2017. In the Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sale auction, the work Le Roi Jouant Avec La Reine sold for USD 15,987,500.00 (€ 14,228,818.08) - well above the upper estimate of USD 6,000,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Max Ernst; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Le roi jouant avec la reine sold at auction in November last year with the realized price of USD 24,435,000.00 (€ 23,670,444.64).

Dieses Kunstwerk von Max Ernst erzielte im Mai 2017 bei Sothebys in New York einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sale wurde die Arbeit Le Roi Jouant Avec La Reine für USD 15.987.500,00 (€ 14.228.818,08) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 6.000.000,00.
