It achieved a price of GBP 104,500.00 (€ 133,903.85), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 31%. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by René Magritte achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work L’empire des lumières in March last year with an auction result of GBP 59,422,000.00 (€ 70,451,468.85).

Die Arbeit Une simple histoire d'amour von René Magritte kam im Februar 2016 bei Christies in London zur Auktion. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von GBP 104.500,00 (€ 133.903,85) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 31%. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von René Magritte erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit L’empire des lumières im März letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 59.422.000,00 (€ 70.451.468,85).
