Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Smoker #21 by Tom Wesselmann was sold in the 20th/21st Century: London Evening Sale auction at Christies in London in June last year. The price achieved of GBP 2,442,000.00 (€ 2,836,909.35) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 2,000,000.00 – 3,000,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Tom Wesselmann - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Great American Nude No. 48, which sold at auction in May 2008 for USD 10,681,000.00 (€ 6,864,395.89).
