Jean-Michel Basquiat: King Pleasure© will be a sensation: the artist's family is inviting visitors to a presentation of over 200 rare works by Basquiat, most of which will be seen for the first time. Paintings, drawings and ephemera will renew the view of Basquiat's life and work. The show opens April 9 at the Starrett-Lehigh Building in New York.

Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988), who rose to fame at an early age and died young, fought against being classified as a graffiti artist. He was the first Black artist to establish himself in the white dominated US/Western art market. Today, his work is among the most sought-after items at auction. Most recently, Basquiat's Untitled (1982) was announced for auction at Phillips in May with an estimate of $70 million.Art.Salon
