Museum Morsbroich celebrates 70th anniversary and plans new start from 2022 onwards

After 70 years, Museum Morsbroich looks back on a past full of change. Since the 1950s, it has seen many trends come and go and accompanied the rise of today's world-famous German artists. For the anniversary exhibition, which opened on September 19, the employees, starting with the most senior, were allowed to choose the exhibits. The selection criteria were completely open.

The museum is looking back because it is planning a new beginning: Starting in 2022, a process of change will begin that should help the museum regain its relevance and importance in the future. A way is being sought to return to the leading position as a museum that it held in the years following its founding. Exactly how this process will take place and what the result will look like is not yet public and partly still open. With the exhibitions, the museum wants to react to the current developments of the next few years, which cannot be foreseen at this point in time.

Until then, it is worth taking a look at the past. The staff has chosen works by Joachim Bandau, Elmgreen & Dragset, Jeppe Hein, Imi Knoebel, Maria Lassnig, Robert Motherwell, Gerhard Richter, Mary Vieira, Andy Warhol and Manabu Yamanaka, among others, for the exhibition.Art.Salon
