From October 3, real animals will share the exhibition space of the Max Ernst Museum in Brühl with mythical and hybrid creatures for a good five months. As part of Surreal Creatures, visitors can admire more than 140 works by a total of 70 artists and immerse themselves in the world of surrealism during an unusual visit to the zoo until February 6, 2022. According to the Max Ernst Museum, this variety of surrealist »bestiary« has never been seen before. The dream worlds of Max Ernst, Dorothea Tanning or Leonor Fini open up a whole spectrum from the beginnings of the style in the 1920s to the turn of the millennium. On display will be paintings, sculptures, illustrated books, magazines, literary texts and also films. Exhibits include works by the greatest of their time, such as André Breton, Luis Buñuel, Leonora Carrington, Salvador Dalí, and Marcel Duchamp, as well as 100 depictions of animals by Max Ernst from the museum's permanent collection.

The Max Ernst Museum opened on September 4, 2005 in Brühl, the birthplace of surrealist Max Ernst. It is located in a restored 19th-century neoclassical three-wing building, originally used as an excursion restaurant, which has been extended by a glass pavilion and an entrance plateau. Max Ernst had visited it himself at his time.Art.Salon
