This artwork by Chiharu Shiota achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in July 2021. In the Post War and Contemporary Art Day Sale auction, the work State of Being sold for GBP 287,500.00 (€ 337,153.36) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 150,000.00. This high result makes State of Being the most expensive artwork by Chiharu Shiota that we have observed at auctions so far.
