Auction result well in line with expectations
In October 2021 Phillips in New York held the auction Photographs, which included the work Glassman, Mexico; Self-Portrait, Reminiscent of ‘Portrait as a Vanité, New Mexico by Joel-Peter Witkin. The price achieved of USD 5,670.00 (€ 4,908.24) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 5,000.00 – 7,000.00. Admittedly, works by Joel-Peter Witkin have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Kiss in April 2000 with an auction result of USD 35,250.00 (€ 38,783.14).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Oktober 2021 führte Phillips in New York die Auktion Photographs durch, in der auch die Arbeit Glassman, Mexico; Self-Portrait, Reminiscent of ‘Portrait as a Vanité, New Mexico von Joel-Peter Witkin zur Versteigerung kam. Der dabei erzielte Preis von USD 5.670,00 (€ 4.908,24) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit USD 5.000,00 – 7.000,00 angegeben worden. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Joel-Peter Witkin auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit The Kiss im April 2000 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 35.250,00 (€ 38.783,14).
