Upper estimate price exceeded by 40 %.
The work Up and Down by Maurits Cornelis Escher was sold in the Prints and Multiples auction at Bonhams in December last year. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 7,012.50 (€ 7,916.43), 40% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Maurits Cornelis Escher achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Reptiles (Bool 327) in April last year with an auction result of USD 756,000.00 (€ 717,471.77).
