Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Alexander Calder could be acquired at Christies in New York in May this year for an unexpectedly low price. In the A Century of Art: The Gerald Fineberg Collection Part I auction, the work Caged Stone on Yellow Stalk changed hands for USD 3,196,000.00 (€ 2,999,812.28) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 4,000,000.00 – 6,000,000.00. Admittedly, works by Alexander Calder have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Poisson volant (Flying Fish) in May 2014 with an auction result of USD 25,925,000.00 (€ 19,006,598.24).
