This artwork by Balthus achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in June 2004. In the Impressionist and Modern Works on Paper auction, the work Étude pour 'Katia lisant' sold for GBP 83,650.00 (€ 124,496.26) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 40,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Balthus achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Thérèse Sur Une Banquette in May 2019 with an auction result of USD 19,002,500.00 (€ 17,044,129.52).

Dieses Kunstwerk von Balthus erzielte im Juni 2004 bei Christies in London einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Impressionist and Modern Works on Paper wurde die Arbeit Étude pour 'Katia lisant' für GBP 83.650,00 (€ 124.496,26) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 40.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Balthus erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Thérèse Sur Une Banquette im Mai 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 19.002.500,00 (€ 17.044.129,52).
