Bacchanale in a Forest (Bartsch 5; Passavant 5; Bury 3)
engraving, circa 1550, on two vertically joined sheets of paper, one with an Anchor in a Circle watermark, a slightly worn impression of this extremely rare print, showing wear mainly along the lower plate edge, with 4-6 mm. margins on all sides, a horizontal central fold mainly visible on the right sheet, a few very short tears at the sheet edges, generally in very good condition

A top price for Giulio Sanuto - as previously expected
The work Bacchanale in a Forest (Bartsch 5; Passavant 5; Bury 3) by Giulio Sanuto was sold in the OLD MASTER, MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY PRINTS auction at Christies in London in November 2005. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 7,000.00 – 10,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 7,200.00 (€ 10,577.71) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Bacchanale in a Forest (Bartsch 5; Passavant 5; Bury 3) is the most expensive artwork by Giulio Sanuto that we have observed at auctions so far.
