the complete artist's book comprising twenty-eight etchings (nine with aquatint) and six aquatints in colors, on Japon paper, 1964, signed by the artist in pencil and by the publisher in red crayon on the title page, number 60 of 65 (there were also ten examples in Roman numerals), published by Le Degré 41 (Iliazd), Paris, loose (as issued), with title, text in French and justification pages, the lithographs in-texte, with full margins, in very good condition, together with various paper wrappers and a vellum wrapper with printed image on front cover, within cloth-covered boards and slipcase with printed image on spine

Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In April this year Christies in New York held the auction The Sale of the Century: An Important Corporate Collection of Prints and Multiples, which included the work Guillaume Tempel, Maximiliana ou l'Exercise illégal de l'Astronomie by Max Ernst. Here, the upper estimate of USD 80,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for USD 81,900.00 (€ 74,184.78). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Max Ernst achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Le roi jouant avec la reine in November last year with an auction result of USD 24,435,000.00 (€ 23,670,444.64).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Im April diesen Jahres führte Christies in New York die Auktion The Sale of the Century: An Important Corporate Collection of Prints and Multiples durch, in der auch die Arbeit Guillaume Tempel, Maximiliana ou l'Exercise illégal de l'Astronomie von Max Ernst zur Versteigerung kam. Dabei wurde der obere Schätzpreis von USD 80.000,00 leicht übertroffen – das Kunstwerk fand für USD 81.900,00 (€ 74.184,78) einen neuen Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Max Ernst erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Le roi jouant avec la reine im November letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 24.435.000,00 (€ 23.670.444,64).
