Upper estimate price exceeded by 42 %.
In May last year Sothebys in New York held the auction Modern Day Auction, which included the work Martha's Vineyard (Beetlebung Corner) by Thomas Hart Benton. The »bidding war« ended at USD 113,400.00 (€ 105,675.15), 42% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Hart Benton achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Nashaquitsa in November last year with an auction result of USD 5,580,000.00 (€ 5,405,405.41).
