Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by David Hockney achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in June 2019. In the Post-War and Contemporary Art Day Auction auction, the work Study of Water in a Pool sold for GBP 275,000.00 (€ 309,140.78) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 120,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by David Hockney achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Nichols Canyon in December 2020 with an auction result of USD 41,067,500.00 (€ 33,579,313.16).
