HELEN FRANKENTHALER (1928-2011) Pranzo Italiano etching and aquatint in colors, on Fabriano paper, 1973, signed and dated in pencil, numbered 33/43 (there were also three artist's proofs), published by 2RC Editrice, Rome, with their blindstamp, with full margins, in generally good condition Image: 8 1 ⁄ 2 x 8 in. (215 x 200 mm.) Sheet: 19 1 ⁄ 2 x 13 5 ⁄ 8 in. (496 x 345 mm.)
Auction result misses estimated price range
In April this year a collector was able to acquire the work Pranzo Italiano by Helen Frankenthaler for USD 3,024.00 (€ 2,739.13). This price was achieved in the auction The Sale of the Century: An Important Corporate Collection of Prints and Multiples: Online at Christies in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 4,000.00 – 6,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Helen Frankenthaler achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Royal Fireworks in June 2020 with an auction result of USD 7,895,300.00 (€ 7,029,917.19).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Im April diesen Jahres konnte ein Sammler die Arbeit Pranzo Italiano von Helen Frankenthaler für USD 3.024,00 (€ 2.739,13) erwerben. Dieser Preis wurde in der Auktion The Sale of the Century: An Important Corporate Collection of Prints and Multiples: Online bei Christies in New York erzielt und lag noch unterhalb der von dem Auktionshaus angesetzten Schätzpreisspanne von USD 4.000,00 – 6.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Helen Frankenthaler erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Royal Fireworks im Juni 2020 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 7.895.300,00 (€ 7.029.917,19).
